Pond work. Night shift.

Black Frog

He watches the water until it behaves itself.

Pond Particulars

Nothing here is complicated. The frog is black, the shift is late, and every ripple requires a witness.

Two Useful Modes

The pond needs both.

Perfect Stillness

He can wait so long the mosquitoes begin filing paperwork.

Immediate Hands

When a ripple crosses the line, all four feet become management.

Nightly Procedure

Black Frog follows the same reliable method whenever the pond becomes untidy.

  1. Take the stone

Arrive before dusk and claim the least comfortable seat.

  2. Count the ripples

Ignore the harmless ones; remember them anyway.

  3. Inspect the reeds

Something always moves there and never submits a reason.

  4. Correct the water

Place one hand down firmly until the surface understands.

  5. Leave at dawn

Depart without praise, paperwork, or visible improvement.

Built for Waiting

Those eyes are not surprised. They are covering opposite ends of the pond while the hands remain close to the work. Black Frog does not leap for applause. He crouches, evaluates, and makes one small adjustment that somehow feels official. Then he returns to complete stillness, as if nothing required intervention.

Black Frog crouched and watchful, hands close to the work

The pond can sleep now.
